Disney’s The Odd Life of Timothy Green Blu-ray DVD review

The Odd Life of Timothy Green DVD

We did not see Disney’s latest Blu-ray DVD release, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, in the theaters but after watching the Blu-ray Combo Pack, High Definition Digital and On-Demand platforms I wish we had.

From Academy Award-nominated writer/director Peter Hedges (Dan in Real Life, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape), and starring Golden Globe® winner Jennifer Garner, Joel Edgerton, Oscar® winner Dianne Wiest and CJ Adams as Timothy Green, comes this highly imaginative story about a happily married couple who can’t wait to start a family but can only dream about what their child would be like. Then one stormy night young Timothy shows up on their doorstep. Soon they and the small town in which they live learn that sometimes the unexpected can bring some of life’s greatest gifts. The story is written by Ahmet Zappa (“American Gangster,” “Changeling”).

Check out the trailer.

The DVD is pure magic.

It really is fantastic family friendly film where you pop some popcorn and cuddle up on the couch as you see Timothy weave magic and joy into this small town in 100 minutes.  I love the story of a couple who cannot get pregnant and make notes of their perfect child to unexpectedly receive that perfect child by nature’s miracle.  It’s funny to see as a parent what you wish coming true for the good or bad.  The acting and directing are very good but the story is what is really entertaining.

The Odd Life of Timothy Green” Blu-ray Combo Pack can be enjoyed in English, French and Spanish and DVD features includes bonus features five deleted scenes, This Gift music video, director audio-commentary and documentary “Family Roots: Bringing ‘The Odd Life of Timothy Green’ to the Screen,” which looks at this unique family story and the creative team that brought it to life.

Another great movie for gift giving this holiday season: 2-Disc Combo Pack = $39.99 U.S./$46.99 Canada, 1-Disc DVD = $29.99 U.S./$35.99 Canada and HD Digital & On-Demand = please check with your local provider or favorite digital retailer for pricing

With the holiday season we are trying to instill a sense of giving and gratitude with our little men so I had to share this Blessing Box activity by The Odd Life of Timothy Green DVD where you can show that special person in your life how much you appreciate them.

Jake and the Never Land Pirates DVD review AND GIVEAWAY

Posted on 28 September 2011 by Divina Rodriguez

YO HO, LET’S GO MATEYS!

On September 27, Walt Disney Studios released Jake and the Never Land Pirates:Yo Ho, Mateys Away! DVD and the DancingHotdogs family got a chance to review it.

All summer long, I have been telling you about Disney Junior’s franchise hit that has started a pirate craze at our house.  Jake and the Never Land Pirates is cable’s #1 series among Boys 2-5 and is on track to be Disney Channel’s #1 preschool series ever.  It is the most co-viewed series among all Disney Junior and Nickelodeon series, with 47% of Moms watching with their preschooler.  A music-filled interactive treasure hunt, the series introduces a crew of kid pirates – leader Jake and pals Izzy and Cubby – and follows their Never Land adventures as they work to
outwit two infamous characters, the one and only Captain Hook (voiced by Corey Burton) and Smee (voiced by Jeff Bennet), from Disney’s classic “Peter Pan.”

Check out the a clip:

We love Jake (voiced by Colin Ford), Izzie (voiced by Madison Pettis), Cubby (voiced by Jonathan Morgan Heit) and Scully (voiced by David Arquette) as they use the skills to solve problems and thwart Captain Hook. And we love how every episode ends with Sharky and Bones doing a pirate song.  The DVD has 7 episodes from the 20 episode series, a pirate eye patch, a bonus 7 track CD sampler and two fun bonus features Yo Ho, You Want To Be A Pirate?, where Jake teaches viewers how to talk like a pirate, and Pirate Party With Pirate-oke, a collection of music videos performed by The Never Land Pirate Band that allow viewers to enjoy with or without the sing-along/karaoke-like feature.

DVD set suggested retail price is $19.99 and if you have not bought the full Jake and the Never Land Pirates album you get to see the great show and have some tunes for your next long car ride. The DVD set is a total must at my house and I think you are absolutely going to love it at your house.

Mickey’s Great Outdoor with Mickey mote DVD Review

Posted on 15 June 2011 by Divina Rodriguez

By Eddy

Welcome back to the world of Mickey’s Clubhouse.  In this adventure we are treated to 5 episodes of Mickey and the gang exploring the outdoors.  With the addition of the Mickey Mote, Big Brother is enthralled with the Mouse and his friends.  I particularly like that the shows give him a chance to make choices.  I feel for the most part that since everything is always laid out for kids at his age they tend to act out more in order to gain some sort of control.  This at least is one small measure that can be given to them to exert a bit a control and independence while still staying safe and learning something.

For those of you not familiar with the Mickey Mote, it basically is a Mickey shaped remote that has 4 buttons, each with different color and shapes. Kids are then ask throughout the shows to interact with by pressing one of the buttons either to answer a question or make a decision. The remote gets kids to take an active part in the story telling and forces them to sharpen their comprehension skills.

Like all Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episodes some sort of lesson is learned by Mickey and the gang.  Of course, they are helped out by their friends including Toodles.  The episodes break down as follows: Continue Reading
